The Marshalltown Community College Dental Assisting Program is seeking patients for its 7-week Dental Clinic operation. Each year, the MCC Dental Clinic provides a fully operational dental clinic with contracted, licensed dentists in order to provide direct instructor supervision for its dental assisting students. The clinic will provide a ‘free screening’ on Wednesday Jan. 18, and will be open for further examinations from Jan. 18 through Mar. 1.

“This is an integral part of the success of the dental assisting students’ clinical base skills. Our dental clinic has provided quality patient care and service to the community since 1968,” says Tamara Damman, MCC Dental Assisting program coordinator.

This year the Marshalltown Community College Dental Clinic is teaming up with Drs. Daniel and Michelle Johnson of Marshalltown Family Dentistry. Their patient-centered dental expertise and mentoring ability will ensure the MCC Dental Clinic is able to offer an extensive range of dental treatments and oral healthcare services for adults and children.

Patient care is by appointment only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 am to noon, and 1 to 3 pm. The clinic kicks off the 2017 operation with a FREE Screening day on Wednesday, January 18th where the dentist will do a ‘look and see’ type of evaluation. The SCREENING day takes approximately 15 minutes, just for initial evaluations. Appointments for future x-rays and work are made at that time. Additional appointments are scheduled from Jan. 18th through Mar. 1st.

The Dental Assisting Advisory Board sets the fees. The clinic is not free due to infection control and operating expenses. However, the MCC Dental Clinic appreciates patients’ willingness to be a part of the MCC Dental Assisting students’ educational experience and the Clinic offers FREE dental x-rays and a 20% discount when patients pay on the day of service. Most dental insurance plans, including Medicaid, are accepted.

The MCC Dental Clinic is located on the south side of the Marshalltown Community College campus, 3700 S. Center St., to the left of the Continuing Education wing. The Clinic is clearly marked with signage on the building; there is a separate outside clinic entrance labeled Door #10.

Prospective patients are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling the MCC Dental Clinic directly at 641-844-5795 or the College at 641-752-7106, ext. 5795. There is not a full-time receptionist, so persons are asked to leave a message with their complete name and both day and evening phone numbers, as well as the best time to be reached so the appointment can be set. Appointments are being arranged now.
