Marshalltown Community College held its first-ever Southeast Asian Family Night this week, and with more than 40 in attendance (at least two of whom are enrolling for admission), it’s being considered a great success!

In addition to a $500 scholarship awarded to MHS junior Johan Thang, the evening included a light meal, information on how to apply for college admission and financial aid, plus tips on how to be successful in college.

Guest speaker and MCC alumni Jayden Kawthaw Moo, an MHS graduate now studying Education at Iowa State University in Ames, told attendees his story and encouraged everyone to pursue a college education. MCC sophomore Lah Shee also talked about her experiences as an MCC student and answered several questions.

“We were thrilled with the event attendance and the great participation,” said event organizer Valerie Ruiz, MCC Student Success Specialist. “I anticipate that this will become a popular annual event for MCC.”
