MCC hosts Immigration Diversity Panel on March 3

The Marshalltown Diversity Committee will host its fourth annual spring diversity event, “Uprooted: The True Stories of Immigration in Iowa” in which MCC students will share their own personal stories of immigration. The diversity panel discussion will take place on Thursday, March 3, from at 7:00 pm in Babe Harder Gymnasium, Marshalltown Community College, 3700 South Center St.
“Uprooted: The True Stories of Immigration in Iowa” will consist of a panel discussion moderated by film director, Luis Argueta, a critically acclaimed Guatemalan film director and producer. The audience can expect to hear stories about the DREAMers immigration program, undocumented immigrants, refugees, and students whose families have suffered deportations or immigration difficulties. The panel will also feature Dr. Jan Flora from Iowa State University.
Leading up to the event, the College will be showing two of Luis Argueta’s films at the IVCCD Orpheum Theater. The first film, AbUSed, will be shown at 7:00 pm on March 1, and the second film, Abrazos, will be shown at 7:00 pm on March 2. The films will talk about the Postville Raids and Deportations and how that has affected our demographics and community. Admission is free to both films.

The Marshalltown Diversity Committee is continuing to reinforce its mission to educate others about their principles and to implement a culture of equality among those who work and study within the college.
