Orpheum to hold Jean Seberg Festival of the Arts Nov. 4-5

This year’s Jean Seberg Festival of the Arts will take a fond look back at the storied life and career of Jean Seberg, while also looking forward to the future of theatrical arts by hosting a Filmmaking and Acting Workshop for high school youth.

The IVCCD Orpheum Theater Center will host this year’s Jean Seberg Festival of the Arts beginning Friday, Nov. 4, at 6:30 pm and continuing through Saturday, Nov. 5.

The Festival will be preceded by a Jean Seberg Student Filmmaking & Acting Workshop on the weekend prior to the festival, Oct. 29 & 30, from 9 am – 4 pm on Saturday and Noon – 5 pm on Sunday. The workshop will be taught by Marshalltown Community College Broadcasting instructor Steve Muntz, who will work with students on producing two short film projects. Students will learn the art of acting, cinematography and directing film projects.

On Friday, Nov. 4, the Festival doors will open at 6:30 pm. At 7:15, the student participants from the Jean Seberg Student Filmmaking & Acting Workshop will present their films in the movie house, with awards to follow.

The festivities continue on Saturday, Nov. 5, with doors opening at 10 am. The Seberg movie Moment to Moment will be shown in the movie house beginning at 11 am, followed by a Jean Seberg Fashion Icon Fashion Show in the Black Box Theater at 1:30 pm. The festival will close with the movie Who’s Got the Black Box? at 6 pm in the movie house; there will be closing remarks following the evening movie. Cost to attend each of the movies and the fashion show are $6 per event.
