West Marshall wins 4th annual Spring Extravaganza

West Marshall takes home trophy for the second year in a row at this year’s Spring Extravaganza held Wednesday, April 27 at Marshalltown Community College.

West Marshall High School took home the Traveling Trophy for the second year in a row at the fourth annual Spring Extravaganza held at Marshalltown Community College. Nearly 200 students from five local high schools competed in business, family and consumer sciences, and industrial tech competitions throughout the day Wednesday.

West Marshall had the highest average ranking across all competitions, which included students from BCLUW, East Marshall, West Marshall, GMG, and Marshalltown High School. Second Place went to BCLUW and Third Place went to East Marshall. Lorna Kennedy, retiring CTE Consultant with AEA 267, was also honored with a trophy for her 19 years of advocacy for career and technical education in our educational region.

“The students showed remarkable talents and professionalism in each of the career and technical competitions Wednesday,” says Dr. Chris Russell, MCC Dean of Students & Academic Affairs. “Their performances are a reflection of the remarkable technical programs and dedicated teachers in each of our K-12 districts. Students are being prepared very well for many career choices and higher educational options in our region.”

Rapid Interviews: 1^st West Marshall; 2^nd GMG; 3^rd GMG
Cupcake Wars: 1^st GMG; 2^nd BCLUW; 3^rd GMG
Welding: 1^st MHS; 2^nd MHS; 3^rd West Marshall
Repurpose with a Purpose: 1^st MHS; 2^nd BCLUW; 3^rd East Marshall
Construction: 1^st West Marshall; 2^nd East Marshall; 3^rd West Marshall
