Cyber Seniors Workshop a success
Tuesday / April 26, 2016
Thirteen seniors participated in the Cyber Seniors Workshop on Tuesday afternoon at Marshalltown Community College. Over 20 volunteers helped in three shifts to work with the seniors, providing participants with one-on-one computer skills training. The event was sponsored by Wells Fargo.
Chelsea White, VISTA College Access Program Coordinator, helped with registration and catering for the program while Savitha Pinnepalli, Associate Professor in Computer Software and Technology, coordinated the event. Pinnepalli presented on Internet “Do and Don’ts”, search strategies, and provided a USB drive containing useful web links.
“Overall the program was a success due to the active participation of faculty, staff and students at MCC,” says Pinnepalli. “We received a lot of positive feedback on the event.”
Bruno Cubas presented on Wells Fargo online banking; Chris Edel from Farm Bureau Financial Services presented on Identity theft, Identity Services, and Fraud Coverage; Sally Wilson, MCC Biology Faculty, conducted BMI tests; Dave Aust, MCC Computer Networking instructor, presented on hardware parts; George Johnson, MCC Business Faculty, talked about how Internet technology is used in businesses; Carol Geil, Executive Director of Marshalltown Community College Foundation, presented participants with giveaways and certificates.
This is the second year in a row MCC has hosted this Cyber Seniors event.
