MCC hosts ‘Hour of Code’ & ‘Cyber Seniors’ workshops April 25-26

This month Marshalltown Community College will host two technology symposiums catered to both high school students and senior citizens alike.
The first event is Hour of Code: Robotics and Web Design, in which participants will observe student programmed Vex Cortex Clawbot robots and web design presentations, and learn about career opportunities in Computer Science. This technology symposium is designed to inspire and engage young minds to major in the technology field. The event will take place on Monday, April 25, from 9 am – 12 pm on the MCC Campus, 3700 South Center Street, Marshalltown. Cyber Seniors: Computer Skills Workshop is a computer skills workshop catered specifically for senior citizens. Cyber Seniors is an on-campus Service Learning project led by MCC Computer Science students. This project will provide 1:1 computer skills training to mature adult participants by partnering them with a college student mentor. Topics include computer basics and Internet browsing, search strategies, online banking, online shopping and navigating the Internet and downloading data to the computer. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 26, from 9 am – 12 pm at MCC.
Cyber Seniors is a FREE opportunity for those who need assistance learning computer skills. Space is limited to 24 participants, so sign-up today if you are interested. Participants will receive a certificate of completion along with a data storage device and other materials. Guests can use the Main Admissions Entrance, and then follow the hallway to Computer Lab 215, where both classes will take place.
