MCC Foundation launches Flower Fundraiser

Carol Geil flower fundraiser

Carol Geil, MCC Foundation Executive Director

The Marshalltown Community College Foundation will be out in the community this April taking orders for flowers—either to be planted at home for you in May, or in hanging baskets. Those who want to order flowers to be planted will have a choice between several different kinds of ‘annuals’ best suited for either sunny or shady flowerbeds. A volunteer team from the MCC Foundation will come out and plant the flowers into a prepared bed as part of the promotion. Profits from the fundraiser will support the MCC Foundation, and its mission of providing student scholarships.

“The idea of nurturing small flower plants and helping them grow and bloom appeals to us, because it’s a nice analogy for how a scholarship can help a student at MCC ‘bloom’ and advance in their education and career after leaving MCC,” says Carol Geil, MCC Foundation Executive Director. Local greenhouse Isle of Green has signed on to supply the bedding plants and hanging baskets for the fundraiser.

Orders are due by April 27, and the planting is planned for Saturday, May 21, barring poor weather. Hanging baskets can be delivered starting April 22. Geil suggests that this can make an excellent Mother’s Day gift. “Having some volunteers come out and plant flowers for Mom or Grandma is a wonderful gift, especially for busy mothers or those for whom the planting has become more difficult.”

Order forms for the flowers will be available at the College’s main reception desk and at other locations around town. The order form is also available online at www.marshalltowncommunitycollegefoundation.org. From the website you can either print a paper order form to mail or drop off, or complete your order online with a credit card. Orders will also be accepted by phone at 641-844-5748.
