MCC Foundation seeking scholarship applications
Wednesday / January 27, 2016

The Marshalltown Community College Foundation is currently accepting applications for the 2016-17 academic year. All prospective and current students should fill out a general scholarship application, which will make them eligible for nearly all the $340,000+ the Foundation expects to award. There is no deadline to apply for scholarships, but Foundation will begin awarding scholarship dollars in late March and early April, so the earlier a student applies, the better.
Students with military service in the family (including grandparents) are strongly encouraged to fill out a Loyal S. and Helen Fairall Memorial Scholarship application. Several recipients each year will receive full tuition paid for up to 16 credit hours each semester, for a value of almost $6,000. In the past two years the College has also had students receive partial tuition awards of $2,500 or more.
“We hope to see applications from every student who will or might attend Marshalltown Community College,” says Carol Geil, Executive Director of the MCC Foundation. “We often hear students tell us they don’t apply because they feel their grades aren’t good enough, their parents make too much money, or they assume that filling out the FAFSA is all they need to do. We like to make them aware that we have scholarships with GPA requirements starting at 2.0, and our financial need criteria often favor students who are not receiving full federal assistance. Filling out the FAFSA is an important step to applying for aid, but the scholarship application is also necessary to be considered for Foundation awards.”
The Loyal S. and Helen Fairall Memorial Scholarship application, as well as the general application, can be found on the MCC Foundation website or by contacting the College at 641-752-7106. Most high school guidance offices can assist with the application as well. General applications are continually accepted, but the Fairall scholarship deadline is March 31, 2016.
