Orpheum Theater presents ‘Holiday Merchant Movie Series’

‘Tis the season for movies at the Orpheum! This December brings you a couple holiday children’s films as well as some events for the entire family to enjoy this holiday season. So stop on down to the IVCCD Orpheum Theater Center at 220 E. Main St. in Marshalltown and check out what’s in store!
This weekend kicks off with Penguins of Madagascar, a 3D computer animated film that follows penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, and Private in their own adventure. Showtimes are Saturday, Dec. 12, at 1 pm & 3:30 pm, and Sunday, Dec. 13, at 1 pm & 3:30 pm.
Next weekend will feature Arthur Christmas, a children’s film which tells a story about Santa Claus’ clumsy son, Arthur Claus, who is on a mission to save Christmas. Showtimes are Saturday, Dec. 19, at 1 pm & 3:30 pm, and Sunday, Dec. 20, at 1 pm & 3:30 pm.

On Dec. 19, the Clinton Street Vocal Quartet from the University of Iowa will bring their musical talents to the Black Box Theater.
Also later this month, the Orpheum Performance Series will host the Clinton Street Vocal Quartet on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 pm. This vocal quartet will perform some of the best musical theater songs of Stephen Sondheim, arrangements of Old American Folksongs, and delightful medleys of Christmas favorites to bring in the holidays!
Marshalltown’s own improvisational comedy group, “Instant Comedy: JUST ADD SPAM!” is back for a fifth year of workshops and performances this December. The improv comedy performance is set up like the television show, Whose Line Is It Anyway? Be part of the performance team, or just sit back and laugh! Instant Comedy will lead improv workshops December 26 – 29, in the Black Box from 6:30 – 9 pm. Performances are also in the Black Box December 30 & 31 at 7:30 pm.
