Orpheum to show award-winning Seberg doc
Friday / October 16, 2015

The IVCCD Orpheum Theater Center will be showing Movie Star: The Secret Lives of Jean Seberg, the award-winning documentary about Marshalltown native and international icon, Jean Seberg. Movie Star will be shown on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7 pm, and again on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 1 pm.
“Seberg’s story is a fascinating look into the history of the 1960s, particularly in the area of the civil rights movement and race relations,” says Michael Oxley, Orpheum Theater Director.
Movie Star is the first documentary film to focus on the private side of the famous Marshalltown native. The film will also examine Seberg’s very public American and international film career, civil rights era activism, and her mysterious untimely death in Paris. The film features exclusive on-camera interviews with Jean’s family, friends and colleagues, as well as never-before-seen private photographs, home movie footage and rare movie and behind-the-scenes film clips.
A Jean Seberg exhibit will open on Friday afternoon throughout the Orpheum Theater, featuring new Seberg Collection items contributed by Seberg fan Kendall Natvig. The weekend will also feature a music workshop led by acoustic duo Amy & Adams on Nov. 14, from 10 am – noon. Amy & Adams will also perform that night at 7 pm. The Minnesota-based duo offers an evening of great tunes from the 1920s through the 60s, as well as their own infectious original songs, all wrapped in lush accompaniments and stunning vocal harmonies.
Tickets for Movie Star are $8. Amy & Adams tickets are $10. A special package ticket is available for the Nov. 14 screening of Movie Star and the Amy & Adams concert for $15. All tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 641-844-5921 or by visiting the Orpheum Theater Office.
