MCC hosts Manufacturing Open House Oct. 2

Marshalltown Community College plans to host a Manufacturing Open House on Oct. 2 in conjunction with National Manufacturing Week. The Open House will run from 9:00 – 11:30 am. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour facilities, see machine demonstrations, speak to instructors, and speak to other students who are enrolled in the career technical programs. The MCC Admissions Team will also be there to answer any questions and provide campus tours.

“There are many career options in Advanced Manufacturing locally and statewide and MCC has the academic programs and facilities to train the workforce for many of these high-paying jobs,” says Chris Russell, MCC Dean of Students and Academic Affairs. “Please come and visit our college if you are interested in learning about these program and career opportunities.”

Visitors can come at any time from 9:00 – 11:30 am. Attendees will meet in Admissions and will be taken on a guided tour through our facilities. Refreshments will be provided in the Utility Tech lab.

MCC’s open house will include:

  • A tour of the Machine Tool Technology facilities. Visitors will get a chance to see the Plasma Table and brand new CNC Lathe in action.
  • Mechanical Trainer and Programmable Logic Control (PLC) demonstrations.
  • A tour of the Welding lab. Visitors will have the opportunity to see welding classes in action.
  • A tour of the Utility Tech Lab, Electro-Mechanical Systems Technology Lab, and Construction Lab.
  • Student Success Specialists will be on hand for specific questions about enrolling into one of these manufacturing programs.

Manufacturing Week has been designed to expand knowledge about and improve general public perception of manufacturing careers and manufacturing’s value to the U.S. economy. Manufacturing Day is for students, parents, educators, media, customers, suppliers and the community at large. Visitors will learn about real career opportunities, training and resources. In addition, manufacturers will learn about business improvement resources and services delivered through manufacturing extension partnerships.

MCC will be holding events throughout Manufacturing Week, Sept. 28 – Oct. 5:

  • Monday, Sept. 28: Lunch and Learn with Ann Laubenthal from the Marshalltown Company, MCC Room 520, 12-1 pm
  • Tuesday, Sept. 29: MCC College Fair, Student Activity Center, 9-11 am
  • Wednesday, Sept. 30: “American Made” movie screening, MCC Room 520 3- 4:45 pm
  • Friday, Oct. 2: Manufacturing Day Open House, 9-11 am
  • Monday, Oct. 5: Manufacturing Showcase for High School Students, 9-11:40 am
