English
If you enjoyed your high school English and literature courses, English could be your specialty. Businesses and industries sometimes require technical writing for instruction manuals, equipment manuals and scientific and technical materials. An English background is always a plus for any writing-related job, as well as teaching English.
Job outlook
Employment of writers and editors is expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations as magazines and periodicals develop special interest publications. Demand for technical writers and writers with expertise in specialty areas, such as law, medicine, or economics, is expected to increase because of the continuing expansion of scientific and technical information and the need to communicate it to others.
